In Letting Go of Being Perfect, We Are
I had a dream in which I kept trying to get myself to a roadside store. I kept overshooting, missing, the turn. Trying to make the perfect turn was dangerous for me. Finally, I came up with a plan. I found a place to park that was not exactly in front of the store, but was close enough. A little stream was there, and I was following it, and it made me happy. I interpret the dream to mean that striving for perfection is self-defeating: If we tell ourselves we won’t “do it” until everything is perfect, we may find ourselves immobile, never moving ahead in the direction of our dreams. The realization that “nothing is ever going to happen (my dreams will not come true) if I wait for perfection” has allowed me to achieve my dreams. May it do the same for you!
